mathematical miscellany
a blog which exists because Google Sites doesn't support LaTeX
Prerequisites: an open mind.
Hi, and welcome to my blog! Here’s where I let myself post informal ramblings which I haven’t written up cleanly for one reason or another.
My name’s Robert, I’m a maths PhD student at the NYU CIMS, and I really like explaining things – as I feel like you can only claim to understand something if you can explain it somewhat coherently to someone else. To that end, this blog is a challenge: I’ll be using this blog for more informal explainers, random things I’m thinking about, and so on. Stuff from here, perhaps. It’ll be mostly mathematical; expect me to bounce around a lot between topics – but whatever I’m talking about will probably have something to do with (pure or applied) analysis, topology, and/or mathematical logic. I’m going to do my level best to keep each post somewhat self-contained; I’ll make explicit what prerequisites I expect at the start for each post.
I have zero plans to have a consistent upload schedule, but maybe if I find myself having a lot of fun doing this I can try to have one. I still don’t really know who the target audience actually is for this blog, but if even one person gets something out of anything posted here then it will have been worth it. :^)
